Baby & Child Model Modeling Information and Resources

Are you thinking about getting your baby into modeling?

There are several things to think about when considering getting your baby or child started in the baby modeling industry.  The good news is that there are tons of companies needing baby and child models for magazines and commercials.  Most parents don't know it but there are tons of real opportunities for kids to receive huge life changing compensations just for posing for a few pictures! It's not as hard to break into this business once you have the right guidance and Renee' at Child Models can help!

The bad news is that the competition is fierce AND there are also tons of baby modeling scams just waiting out there to take advantage of you and your money.  Be careful about handing over money to just any "talent scout".  We suggest you do a thorough search and investigation on any company before handing them your money.

A few things to consider before getting started with baby modeling!

How is your child's personality and temprament?  Baby model scouts are not only looking for the prettiest baby.  It's certainly NOT a beauty pageant.  There are 6 criteria they are searching for from a baby model.  These criteria are looks, disposition, behavior, personality, talent and availability.  We've highlighted that last criteria because even if your baby passes these other 5 criteria with flying colors, if your unable to show up for an interview or shoot then you won't get far in this business.  And this leads us to the next point.  Most of the really great opportunities are only located in areas such as Los Angeles and New York.  Some will even want you to show up in Paris or Tokyo!

Baby Modeling Photos and Portfolios

You should never have to pay a talent scout for photos of your baby.  There are tons of reputable scouts who will accept just a polaroid or snapshot of your baby.  As a child gets older however the photos will need to become more professional.  But by no means do you have to pay thousands of dollars for a portfolio of your baby.  If a scout tells insists on this, turn the other way and run. This is a known scam.

Keep baby very natural in the photo.  There's no need to dress your little girl in big elaborate dresses and hair bows.  This only takes away from your baby's personality.

What makes a great baby model?

As stated before, by no means does your baby have to look perfect but it helps if baby has clear skin, bright eyes and a happy disposition.  Another thing that seems to come up often is uniqueness. Many companies tend to choose baby's who look different or stand out in the crowd. The more exotic your baby looks, the better.  That doesn't mean that your all american blonde haired blue eyed child won't be accepted. These conventional looks can get your child very far too!

Your baby's personality can get him or her a very long way in this business.  A bubbly and beautiful personality can be seen through a photo.  Agents will want to this on film, not in person.  In essence your baby's personality will want to shine through in the photo.  You may want to seriously consider this when sending in your photo(s).  For more information on getting into the baby and child modeling industry you'll want to consider "

A few tips for parents considering getting started in Baby Modeling.

1. Any child under 17 years of age and in full time education must be licensed to work in modeling & entertainment.

2. DO NOT rush into signing paperwork at any interview.  Legitimate agencies will allow you plenty of time to read over all the fine print, even allowing you to take paperwork home for legal advice.

3. Parents (and children old enough to understand) will need a strong backbone and be able to cope with rejection and scrutiny.  Agents can be very blunt and bold when considering your baby or child for a position.  They usually will not think twice about telling you what might be "wrong" with your baby.

We hope these tips have provided some of the informaiton you are looking for before getting involved in baby modeling.  Good luck to you and your baby model!
